Traders betting against crypto lost $2.74 billion in a day, more than the short side of the October 2025 crash that remains the biggest liquidation event in the market's history.
- Short sellers lost nearly $2.7 billion in 24 hours as bitcoin surged toward $70,000, triggering the largest wave of forced short closures in records going back to 2021.
- Total crypto liquidations reached nearly $3 billion across more than 172,000 traders, with shorts making up about 92% of the wipeouts and outnumbering long liquidations by more than ten to one.
- The short squeeze, which briefly pushed bitcoin near $69,900 and levels not seen since early June, unfolded in about an hour and may prove fragile because it was driven by forced buying rather than sustained new demand.
