- Latin American telecom operator VIVA is the first carrier live on Iris, an Avalanche-based network for transaction settlement and dollar-denominated operating reserves focused on telco companies.
- Iris, led by former IBM Blockchain partner Jules Miller, lets carriers plug existing identity, billing and distribution systems into financial services without replacing the infrastructure already running their businesses.
- The network is starting in emerging markets, where mobile operators often play a much bigger role in consumers’ financial lives than they do in the U.S., John Nahas, Ava Labs’ cheif business officer said.
